The MADE Banned List is a comprehensive proprietary database that includes over 15,000 known toxic chemicals. As part of the MADE certification process, every product is screened against this list. Companies can work with us to identify whether they use any substances on the list, allowing them to pursue more sustainable solutions.
When a product is MADE WISE Certified™, it eliminates over 15,000 harmful chemicals. MADE WISE helps expedite the reduction of harmful chemicals from consumer goods, drives transparency and accelerates the shift to safer, more sustainable production. Unlike vague "clean" or "green" claims, MADE WISE sets a meaningful science-based standard that eliminates more substances than the US and EU regulations. When a product is MADE WISE Certified, it intentionally prohibits the worst known pollutants including PFAS, plasticizing chemicals, high-risk pesticides and much more.
MADE SAFE®, our original certification program, is the only certification uncompromising in its commitment to both human and ecosystem health, with a rigorous, science-based process that evaluates every known ingredient. MADE SAFE certified products must provide complete transparency, avoid more than 15,000 harmful chemicals on the MADE Banned List, and then pass the comprehensive Ecosystem Approach screening. This approach analyzes potential sources of pollution, as well as harmful impacts on soil, sediment, air, water, human, aquatic and/or terrestrial life. Certification also requires full manufacturer transparency, including disclosure of intentionally added substances and detailed insight into the production process, ensuring that even things that never make it onto labels are reviewed. When a product is MADE SAFE, it means it is truly Made With Safe Ingredients®.
Transformation Partners by MADEWORKS is a consulting program designed to help companies as they transform products and ingredients for a safer and more sustainable marketplace. The Transformation Partners program provides in-depth, iterative, and interactive ingredient improvement reviews and guidance. Pregnancy Approved by MADEWORKS is a supplemental review option for companies that have already achieved MADE SAFE Certification. The Pregnancy Approved program requires an additional layer of review in order to confirm that products do not contain added ingredients that are known or suspected to be harmful to pregnant women or fetal development. The Pregnancy Approved program is not a certification program, but offers companies a review-backed use of the specific statement. The review results are provided in a detailed report as well as a Statement of Compliance for suitable products.
