The MADE Banned List is a comprehensive proprietary database that includes over 15,000 known toxic chemicals. As part of the MADE certification process, every product is screened against this list. Companies can work with us to identify whether they use any substances on the list, allowing them to pursue more sustainable solutions.
When a product is MADE WISE Certified™, it eliminates over 15,000 harmful chemicals while also ensuring humane treatment of animals. MADE WISE helps expedite the reduction of harmful chemicals from consumer goods, drives transparency and accelerates the shift to safer, more sustainable production. Unlike vague "clean" or "green" claims, MADE WISE sets a meaningful science-based standard that eliminates more substances than the US and EU regulations. When a product is MADE WISE Certified, it intentionally prohibits the worst known pollutants including PFAS, plasticizing chemicals, high-risk pesticides and much more while also making sure animals are treated humanely.
MADE SAFE®, our original certification program, is the only certification uncompromising in its commitment to both human and ecosystem health, with a rigorous, science-based process that evaluates every known ingredient. MADE SAFE certified products must provide complete transparency, avoid more than 15,000 harmful chemicals on the MADE Banned List, and then pass the comprehensive Ecosystem Approach screening. This approach analyzes potential sources of pollution, as well as harmful impacts on soil, sediment, air, water, human, aquatic and/or terrestrial life. The humane treatment of animals is also a core tenet of MADE SAFE. Certification requires full manufacturer transparency, including disclosure of intentionally added substances and detailed insight into the production process, ensuring that even things that never make it onto labels are reviewed. When a product is MADE SAFE, it means it is truly Made With Safe Ingredients®.
Transformation Partners by MADEWORKS is a consulting program designed to help companies as they transform products and ingredients for a safer and more sustainable marketplace. Pregnancy Approved by MADEWORKS This standard extension provides an additional layer of scrutiny identifying whether any substance in a product is known or suspected to pose a risk to pregnant individuals, either through potential harm to maternal health or fetal development. MADE SAFE’s Pregnancy Standard is a meaningful tool for helping individuals make informed decisions during one of life's most important and sensitive stages.
MADE SAFE Furniture Standard The MADE SAFE Certified furniture extension is built from safer baseline materials and carefully screened to help avoid materials that raise concerns for human health or the environment. Its evaluation goes far beyond visible surfaces to examine construction choices that can drive exposure, including cushion and fill material, textiles and treatments, finishes and coatings, adhesives, and other interior components you may never see.
MADE WISE Supplements Standard The Supplement Standard is an extension of the MADE WISE Certified program where we screen dietary supplements using a science-based framework focused on eliminating harmful substances. MADE WISE Supplements raise the bar on ingredient safety and transparency by reviewing intentionally added substances against the MADE Banned List, which includes more than 15,000 substances of concern. While supplements can offer valuable health benefits, many products on the market include substances that raise serious questions about purity, transparency, and long-term safety.

Join us in helping set the standard for clean, green, and/or eco products through participation in the MADE WISE Certified program. Fees for MADE WISE Certified include a screening fee and an annual licensing fee for products that achieve certification.
Screening Fees
All products submitted for MADE WISE review are subject to screening fees at a rate of $350 per product. Screenings for MADE WISE are capped at 50 ingredients, and synthetic fragrance must be submitted separately as a distinct product. If a product proceeds to MADE SAFE review, an additional $650 screening fee per product will apply.
Annual Licensing Fees
Annual licensing fees are applied to certified products and are a per-product flat fee.

Become a MADE WISE supporter
Any company is welcome to participate as a supporter. Achieving certification is not required to become a MADE WISE Supporter. To join, sign this pledge and screen at least one product to receive a report on the opportunities for ingredient improvement. Conduct this screening annually to benchmark progress and measure improvement.
Products carrying the MADE SAFE® seal represent a company's commitment to a healthy and sustainable marketplace and the assurance that no known or suspected toxic ingredients were used in production. Fees for MADE SAFE include a screening fee and annual licensing fee for products that achieve certification.
